Understanding PayPal G&S Fees in 2026
PayPal Goods & Services (G&S) is the payment method designed for commercial transactions —
any time you're buying or selling something. The seller pays the fee; the buyer is protected by
PayPal Purchase Protection.
The 2026 standard commercial transaction rate is 3.49% + a fixed fee per transaction.
The fixed fee depends on the currency received:

PayPal G&S vs Friends & Family — Key Differences
Many sellers are tempted to use Friends & Family to avoid fees, but this violates PayPal's Terms
of Service for commercial transactions and removes all buyer and seller protection.
G&S: 3.49% + fixed fee — buyer has Purchase Protection, seller is covered against most chargebacks for physical goods with tracking
F&F: Free when sending from bank/balance (card adds ~2.9%) — zero protection for either party
When to use F&F: Only for genuine personal transfers (splitting dinner, repaying a friend)
How to Price Items to Account for the PayPal Fee
If you want to net a specific amount after PayPal's cut, use the reverse calculator above.
The formula is:
Charge = (Target Net + Fixed Fee) ÷ (1 − 3.49%)
Example: To net $200 USD → (200 + 0.49) ÷ 0.9651 = $208.79.
The buyer pays $208.79, PayPal takes $8.79, you receive exactly $200.00.
The standard PayPal Goods & Services fee in 2026 is 3.49% + a fixed fee per transaction.
For USD the fixed fee is $0.49, EUR €0.35, GBP £0.30.
International cross-border transactions add approximately 1.50% on top.
These are domestic commercial transaction rates — verify the latest at

Fee = Amount × 3.49% + Fixed Fee
Example for $100 USD: $100 × 0.0349 + $0.49 = $3.49 + $0.49 = $3.98.
The seller receives $100 − $3.98 = $96.02.
Use the calculator above for any amount and currency.
G&S: for commercial transactions. Buyer has Purchase Protection.
Seller pays 3.49% + fixed fee.
F&F: for personal transfers only. No fees when paying from bank/balance,
but zero buyer or seller protection. Using F&F for a sale violates PayPal's Terms of Service.
Use the Reverse Calculator section above. Enter the net amount you want to receive.
The formula is:
Charge = (Target Net + Fixed Fee) ÷ (1 − 3.49%)
Example: to net $100 USD → (100 + 0.49) ÷ 0.9651 = $104.65.
Not directly. Options:
Factor the fee into your price (use the reverse calculator)
Negotiate a volume rate with PayPal (available for high-volume merchants)
Switch to an alternative (Stripe, Wise, Payoneer) for lower rates on specific use cases
Do not use Friends & Family for sales — it violates PayPal ToS.
The percentage (3.49%) is the same in most markets. The fixed fee varies by currency:
EUR €0.35, GBP £0.30, CAD $0.49, AUD $0.59, BRL R$0.40.
Cross-border (international) transactions add ~1.50% on top.
Select your currency from the dropdown above to see the exact rate for your market.
